I love this bicycle but I am at that point in my life where I need something less aggressive, you know for touring. Perhaps "touring" is the word the community uses to help older cyclists escape with some of their dignity. In any event, that's where I am at in my life and that's why I'm selling my Tarmac. That said, I bought this 2010 Specialized Tarmac Expert SL last fall and it has been a pleasure to ride. This was one of first bicycles with the new Shimano Ultegra 6700 which got a lot of attention and for good reason as the gruppo is awesome. I have been riding the bike with an upgraded wheelset but it rode beautifully with the Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheelset, which although a bit heavy at almost 1800 grams, has silky smooth bearings. They make a great training wheelset. Enough about that though, on to the frameset.

Tarmac Frameset 10R Carbon

Those of you that may be interested in this bicycle know the significance of high grade carbon fiber in a frame.Link to Media

I may be a tad biased but the 2010 Specialized Tarmac Expert SL is arguably one of the best bicycles per dollar available. The frame is the same FACT 10r carbon layup as the Pro frame. The differences are the colors and component specifications. The frame is exceptional. It’s incredibly stiff, yet even without any Zertz fittings like previous iterations of the Tarmac frame, it’s also compliant enough for a century. Not once has it ever felt harsh to me. As an example of how comfortable the bike is compared to my old Lemond, I’m running 120 psi right now and would never run more than 100 on my old bike. The best part is, at 120, the Tarmac is still 10 times more comfortable. So far I’ve put around 1500 miles on it and I still feel like I’m nowhere near discovering the limits of its stiffness. Its stability is also incredible. Lean it over hard on a descent and it’ll reward you with crisp turn in and seemingly endless amounts of grip thanks to the huge down tube and stiff fork. The whole lower half of the frame is massive from the 1-1/4 lower bearing down to the gigantic BB area. The rear stays also continue this trend and add to the rigidity of the frame. I couldn’t be happier with the performance characteristics of this frameset.

Tarmac Expert SL Saxobank
Did I mention that it's Team Saxobank branded?Link to Media

The 2010 Tarmac is a world class frame for an affordable price. When combined with Shimano’s 6700 Ultegra groupset, an almost race-ready bike becomes available to those without deep pockets. It’s more bike than anyone non-pro can handle. I hate to see her go but c'est la vie. I paid $3300 for it and am only asking $2300; helluva deal. Size is Medium (54). Serious inquiries only please. Just message me on Facebook or send an email to me.

About me

Living Well Award I suppose that over the years I have adopted one of the tenets of the brilliant Albert Einstein who states that a man of value is by default a success. And I quote; "Try not to be a man of success but a man of value." I work hard and I expect the same from others. I have no tolerance for those that expect something for nothing or benefit solely from the work of others. I love my family, my friends and this great nation we live in. I thank God every day for the men and women of the military that defend this nation and our way of life. I am grateful for what I have and am not troubled by those that appear to have more. I have been blessed with a beautiful wife and two great sons and love them all dearly. I enjoy road cycling and doing things outdoors, like hiking and such. Life is good and I'll continue to live it to the fullest. And I suggest that you do the same. All the best.
